Music for Early Learning Centres

Gumnut Music is proud to offer music classes at Early Learning Centres and Kindergartens.

Our program is reflective of the Early Years Learning Framework and we work collaboratively with children during sessions to ensure content is meaningful and inclusive.

Music & Movement for ELC’s

Our ELC and kinder sessions foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where children stimulate their musical intelligence in conjunction with social, emotional, bodily-kinesthetic and linguistic intelligence. We do this by providing open-ended materials and content that recognises the needs of the whole child, not just their musicality.

All of our lesson plans are structured but adaptable on the spot, addressing the wants and needs of individual groups of children we are working with. We ensure this by keeping our content live (with no recorded music), to ensure free-flowing student and teacher collaboration.

We teach to the Victorian Public School term, and present four contrasting themes a year.

In the classroom you will experience:

  • Educators leading lessons with their voice and a ukulele. Other instruments are also presented during term depending on the instrumental qualifications of individual educators. No recordings here! 
  • Puppetry using engaging puppets designed for education and learning. 
  • Dancing and free movement using a variety of open-ended resources.
  • Creative props that foster engaging and meaningful storytelling.
  • A variety of high-quality instruments with contrasting timbres and cultural diversity for the children to play.
  • Rhythm and pitch reading play-based exercises (for ages three years and over).

Why our sessions are great for ELC’s

Our curriculum is ever evolving and most importantly adaptable on the spot. Our qualified educators use only live instrumentation and singing (no recordings), which gives them the flexibility to alter sessions to provide a child-led learning environment. Our philosophy is inspired by the Kodàly approach and is designed to foster confidence as a music maker and singer. Our singing voice is our very first instrument so we focus on healthy vocal exploration in every lesson.

Thank you, Louise, for helping us celebrate children’s week at our community childcare centre in Collingwood. Louise was wonderfully engaging with our toddlers and baby groups. Very quickly all were engaged and enthralled by Louise, dancing, playing music and having a great time. Louise calmly guided children to participate safely and appropriately. Thank you for also inspiring our educators too. Hopefully, we can have you back again soon.
