What if my child won't sit still during class?

This is actually perfect! Our classes are designed for movement and exploration. There is no expectation for children to sit quietly – in fact, moving bodies help create moving minds. Your child will absorb the music and participate in their own unique way, which we celebrate!

I'm not musical at all. Will I feel uncomfortable?

Many of our parents start with this concern and quickly discover it doesn’t matter. Our educator creates such a supportive, judgment-free environment that everyone feels comfortable participating. Remember, your child thinks your voice is the most beautiful sound in the world!

How is this different from just playing music at home?

Live music allows us to follow your child’s lead – slowing down, speeding up, or changing direction based on their engagement. Our educator brings expert knowledge of both music education and child development, combining elements strategically to target specific developmental areas while keeping everything playful and child-led.

Is there a specific age when children benefit most from these classes?

Each age experiences different benefits. Babies develop neural pathways for music that form the foundation for later language skills. Toddlers develop social skills, regulation, and vocabulary. Preschoolers build pre-literacy skills and creative expression. The research shows that earlier is better, but any age from 0-5 years will gain significant benefits.

What if we need to miss a class?

Life with little ones is unpredictable! If you notify us before your class time, we can often arrange a makeup class in another timeslot within the same term, subject to availability.

Will my shy child feel comfortable?

Our classes are structured to allow children to participate at their comfort level. Many shy children start by observing and gradually join in as they feel secure. The consistent weekly format provides predictability that helps shy children thrive, and we never pressure participation – we trust each child’s learning journey.

Can I attend with more than one child?

Absolutely! Siblings are welcome, and our classes are perfect for children aged 0-5 years. We do ask that you book for each child over six months old. To keep the experience intimate and inclusive, class sizes are limited to 10 children, so all attendees require a ticket.

What is your refund policy?

We know that life with little ones can be unpredictable, and getting to every class might not always be easy (though we do encourage it!). Gumnut Music has a no-refund policy, but if your child misses a class due to illness, you’re welcome to attend any of our other sessions during the week, subject to availability.

How long is each class?

Classes run for 30 minutes, which is just the right amount of time for young children to stay engaged and focused. This ensures they have a positive, enjoyable experience without becoming overwhelmed or overstimulated. Shorter class durations allow us to keep the activities fun, dynamic, and perfectly suited to their developmental needs.

Can I trial before enrolling?

We understand that committing to a full term can feel like a big decision, both in time and cost. That’s why we offer casual classes at all locations (subject to availability). Just book online, choose the day and date that work for you, and we’ll see you in class! Don’t forget to add your child’s name in the comments.
